Homework #1"wrapping"

1. Do you agree with the web site's description? What do you do that can be called "wrapping"? Give examples and reasons for your actions.

I totally agree with the description for this topic. I believe that's not a bad thing. It can be sometimes confusing, but that's the Japanese culture.

I had an interesting story relating this topic before.
I took a class like Cross Culture Communication long time ago, and we had a guest who is working in a bog company. And he talked about people in the world working there, and how do they survive in the company something like that. Actually that was a so interesting topic and I got many new information about working other countries at her lecture.
At the end of the lecture, he said that "do you have any questions??" I guess it's so natural in Japan. Nobody raised their hand and asked anything back. That's kind of normal in Japan.
At that time, the speaker said with anger "That's weird, you should ask something. SO it's hard to survive for Japanese in big companies!! People from other countries have so many discussion and questions" He is even a Japanese, but he said like that.

I understood what he meant, but what I thought of the opinion is we were brought up in that cultures and customs which is like having inner opinion or mind without saying to others.
I don't know it's the right answer for this question, but this is my story for wrapping of Japanese.

2. a. Where do you go when you die?

I believe we go to heaven and keep our spirits forever, even if we change our life.

b. Explain why do Japanese have death memorial services 1 month, 1 year, 3 years, 7 years, etc. after a person's death?

We think ancestors are very important existence for us. I was taught that we need to respect them and appreciate what we are living by now to them. Since we shouldn't forget them, we have death memorial services.

I also usually don't raise my hand if I have questions. Because I'm so shy to speak especially in English.
I don't know why but I think I'm caring what other peaople think.

For a westerner, we feel that if there are no questions, then we did a bad job! A question means that someone was thinking about the topic you were discussing. No questions mean that everyone was sleeping or thought your presentation was very bad. Good work.

Surely, "wrapping"is not bad...I think so, too. After I read your answer,I thought we should accept another culture good-naturedly.
